Never rub rashly and carelessly at stains in carpet, this may only cause it to smear and become permanent. Also, doing this will weaken the fiber causing your carpet to wear out quicker. You should always dab the stain with a towel type cloth and apply any cleaning solutions to the towel rather than directly on the carpet. Be careful not to over wet the stain while trying to remove as this could wet the carpet backing and make the problem even worse.
If all else fails and you live in the Brisbane/ Gold Coast area contact Surface Master and we will be happy to help rectify your problem or recommend a professional in your area who can help. Always be sure to tell your Carpet Cleaning Professional exactly what you used to try to clean the stain off yourself as this helps in the carpet cleaning process.
Reason #1: Many times, the spot that is being removed has seeped into the backing of the carpet. This is common with pet urine, beverages, and anything that is spilled in volume. The material dries in the backing and the cushion (pad) of the carpet. When the spot is cleaned, only the material in the “pile” of the carpet is removed. However, moisture is introduced into the backing of the carpet. As the spot dries, the material that is in the backing of the carpet comes back into the pile of the carpet.
A good way to prevent the stain re appearing is to leave a folded white towel on the surface of the carpet and weight it down with something heavy. This way if the stain re appears as it is drying it will continue through to the towel rather than the surface of the carpet.
Reason #2: Re-soiling is caused by a sticky residue that has been left behind. The residue may be from the spot itself, the cleaner that was used, or both. Some common residue causes are over-the-counter carpet cleaners purchased at the grocery store.
In many rental properties we see a black line around the edge of the carpet in every room. This is cause by budget carpet cleaners in a big hurry not rinsing out the cleaning solution from the carpet. The carpets look good on the day but over time the dust gets attracted to the sticky edge and once it’s turned black it is a very hard problem to fix.
